And its been more than a week since I arrived in Copenhagen!
Somehow, it has been a really busy week, and its really hard to find time to sit down properly and blog since I’m always tried at night (possibly due to jet lag) and I have been out for a couple of nights so far. Basically, we spent the whole of the 1st week exploring the nighbourhood around our residence (Porcelaenshavn) and hanging out with some of our my buddies and their friends. I must say they are really very nice and fun people and sometimes, I feel like we have to be more enthusiastic in order to avoid disappointing them. I think things turned out fine in the end and all of us had our share of fun so its not so bad. I’m really lazy to recount every single thing we did or places we visited since most of the photos can be found on facebook and its easier to just post pictures than describe everything in words.
Before I start on other stuff, this week is mainly for orientation, during which we attend 1 or 2 talks every morning and then take a break before night activities (which we have to pay 450 DKK or around $110 to sign up!). And night activities range from stuff like folk dances and cultural visits to parties and formal dinner. For someone like me, I probably won’t enjoy them as much but I kinda feel obliged to go since my very nice buddy has been trying to “help” us to get into all the parties and stuff ever since we arrived last tuesday.
Normally, things may not be that bad if I have some nice company but it turns out that out group dynamics (among the 5 of us from NUS) is a little weird right now. Without mentioning names, we have 2 who are perpetually stuck together and a little too exclusive at times and 3 rather independent people. And right now, we are just doing things together because it is the proper thing to do but I don’t expect this to last much longer, especially when school starts. I was rather pissed during one of our night activity this week cause I thought some of them were really behaving selfish and blatantly threw me aside while they care only about their own benefits. But I thought that coming for exchange together doesn’t mean that we should or have to get along very well. I don’t really want my exchange to be affected by such people so I shall just let them be and just go with the flow of things.
And I experienced snow for the 1st time! HAHA, its really super nice to see all the snow drifting and swirling all around me. I really hope it will snow heavily soon then we can go out and do a snowman haha.
And I was thinking to myself, my exchange should be filled with nice stuff like this – things that I want to experience and take back with me so that I can think about them from time to time, so I should probably work hard to push aside all the not-so-nice things =)
